At HSA we will nurture your child to fulfil their artistic potential through fun, practical exercises. Throughout the kids programme there are essential life skills integrated throughout allowing your child to no only become an artist but to develop within areas such as:

  • Critical Thinking
  • Taking On Challenges
  • Self-Directed, Engaged Learning
  • Confidence
  • People Skills
  • Focus And Self Control
  • Perspective Taking
  • Communicating
  • Making Connections

Your child will train in a fun, vibrant, exciting and encouraging learning environment. All of HSA’s candidates will receive specialist training across the three disciplines; singing, acting and dance.

Acting

Your child will learn to find the truth of a character whilst continually nurturing their creativity. Within the acting session the kids will work on improvisation and various fun acting exercises. We will look at both stage and screen acting, stagecraft, physicality and voice work.

Singing

Your child will learn about their voice and how it works. There will also be a professional musician who will be there as pianist to accompany your child singing, this is something that’s crucial in developing your child’s musicality. Throughout the singing session we will work on ensemble, repertoire and technique. The main focus for the children will be current West End and Broadway musicals and Disney. This includes your child getting the opportunity to perform both solo and ensemble singing.

Dance

The children will be learning various styles of choreography from West End shows such as Matilda, Frozen, School of Rock, Hairspray, Mamma Mia (to name a few!) focusing specifically on musical theatre. Within these classes we cover tap, jazz, ballet, commercial and contemporary. At HSA your child will not only learn choreography and apply technique – they will learn how to present their performance. We look at conviction, energy and style.

Students will train with us every week throughout the academic year and, it’s important to highlight that in addition to developing their artistic skills, they also meet other young people who share their passion for the arts, have fun exciting experiences and make friends for life!

As the founder of HSA is also a full time musical theatre lecturer delivering SQA qualifications in Musical Theatre at Glasgow based centre – training at HSA could help your child prepare for an audition onto these programmes – an excellent and exciting articulation route.
